DANDENONG VALLEY HISTORIC CAR CLUB Inc.

VINTAGE CAR SWAP MEET at AKOONAH PARK BERWICK

The DVHCC Inc. is holding their 30th Annual Vintage Car Swap Meet on
Saturday 7th February 2009 at Akoonah Park, Princes Highway Berwick.

The first Swap Meet in 1979 was held in what is now the car park of
the Sunday Produce Market. Since then the Swap Meet has grown and now
takes up the entire show grounds.  Now arguably the biggest single day
event in Berwick, the Swap Meet brings together many thousands of
motoring enthusiasts from all over Australia to swap sell or buy parts
needed to complete the restoration of their much loved car or
motorcycle.

The Swap Meet is also a chance for St John and Rotary Cranbourne to
raise much needed funds by providing the food and drink catering for
the event.

“Every year it just gets bigger and better.  The success of the
Berwick Swap is a result of the hard working club members and the long
time support of the vehicle hobbyists, who come every year to buy and
sell rusty “treasures” and new “old stock” says Irwin
Sinclair, President of the Dandenong Valley Historic Car Club Inc.

Wintersun 2009 starts on Friday 29th May and ends with the huge Best of Wintersun Concert on Monday 8th June. Wintersun is Australia's leading annual Retro Nostalgia Festival. Featuring almost 1500 Hot Rods, Custom and Classic Cars, more than 100 bands and performers, dancing, movies, and competitions. The festival is held in the border coastal towns of Coolangatta and Tweed Heads on the New South Wales & Queensland border. Many events are free, some are in the streets while others are in the local clubs and shopping centres.

CHANGES FOR 2009

We are now reviewing all aspects of the festival:

The following areas are being considered:

GRIFFITH STREET: Gold Coast Police, Council and retailers seem to be generally happy with the concept of using Griffith Street as a car display and entertainment area while sill allowing traffic. We are finalising traffic plans now.

STREET PARADE: Parade is back for 2009.

CAR CRUISES: We are delighted with the 2009 route.

BANDS & ENTERTAINMENT: We are no longer accepting suggestitions and submissions for performers for 2009 - if you are in a band or would like to suggest an act please email us at any time, we will begin the 2010 programme selection in August.

FUTURE: We are discussing a variety of options for 2010 to 2015 including taking the festival to a different town each year. If your town would like to host a Wintersun Festival at some time in the future please contact us for more details. Our intention is always to give at least 12 months notice of any move - we will announce details of Wintersun 2010 in our official programme due out on May 18th.
